
Dr. Jamshid Damooei is Professor of Economics and Co-Director of Center for Leadership and Values at California Lutheran University. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics in 1981 from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom. Before joining the faculty at CLU he taught at California State University, Northridge. Prior to his professional work as an academic Dr. Damooei was Director General of the Bureau of Economic Studies and Policies of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance of Iran. He also served as a Senior Economist for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). He is currently a consultant for the United Nations and most recognized for his expertise on economic and institutional capacity building and economics of social issues.
Dr. Damooei's scholarly work includes a broad spectrum of current social and economic issues such as: project design and evaluation, methods of capacity building, crisis prevention and recovery, aid coordination, poverty alleviation, and design of corrective policies with regard to monetary and financial problems. During the last fifteen years he has become more focused on the study of California's economy and authored a number of reports and studies on economic analyses of social issues for private and public entities in Ventura and other neighboring counties. He was recently voted by the faculty of California Lutheran University as the recipient of the President's Award for Teaching Excellence and Professor of the Year for 2005- 2006. Dr. Damooei is a frequent public speaker on various economic and social issues of Ventura County and his views on such issues are often sought by newspapers such as LA times, Acorn, and Ventura County Star.
