The lot

T-hunting stands for transmission hunting. T-hunting is a type of large scale off-road hide and seek utilizing CB radios and signal strength meters. The hidden vehicle or "hidden T" can use anything they want to hide their vehicle. Many T-hunters keep camouflage tarps or military parachutes handy to help hide their vehicles in the brush. There is only one rule for this game The hidden T's signal must be audible by other T-hunters in the designated starting point otherwise known as "The lot". This game has been going on in Simi Valley for well over 50 years. The current group of T-hunters are widely varried in their years of experience. Some have been at it for more than 40 years. Others only a few months.

Over the years, many people have witnessed the t-hunter's strange techniques for locating the hidden T. Every t-hunter is required to do doughnuts in order to pinpoint the T's location. These are not the reckless high speed tire screeching doughnuts that you may be thinking about. T-hunting doughnuts are very low speed circles that are performed while watching the signal strength meter. An average pick up truck that is set up for t-hunting has one magnet mounted antenna on the cab of the truck which is connected straight to the radio. The truck has two more 8 foot "dead whips" on the back of the bed to block signal from getting to the front antenna. When they drive in the circle, they read a high signal and low signal when the needle reaches its highest point on the meter, they know they are pointing directly at the hidden T.

Sometimes people become worried when there is a mob of trucks with antennas driving around in circles in their neighborhood. Police officers are usually understanding when we explain what we are up to.
