Welcome to H.O.W.L., a non-profit organization dedicated to helping our wolves live. Wolves have been subject to hunting, poaching and trapping throughout human history, and as a result, today the wolf population is in danger of extinction. It is our goal to spread awareness, rally support and help protect and increase the threatened wolf populations of the world.

With headquarters based in southern California, we have access to many other animal welfare groups which we can align ourselves with. H.O.W.L. is a proud supporter of the International Wolf Center and the California Wolf Center. We offer volunteer opportunities to those interested in lending a hand, and organize large-scale fundraisers throughout the year. To find out how you can help our wolves live, visit our Get Involved page.

Let your family and friends know what you're doing to help the endangered wolf population! Be sure to "Like" us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.

WOLF OF THE WEEK

Wolf of the Week

The red wolf was first listed on the Endangered Species Act in 1973, and by 1980, it was thought be extinct in the wild. In 1987, between 70-90 red wolves were released in the Alligator River and Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuges. The current population of the refuges is descended from 14 pure red wolves captured in the wild. There are approximately 200 red wolves in captive breeding facilities and today, there are 100-120 free ranging red wolves.
